Our Story Begins Here

Inspiring Creativity Within

Hi! I'm Alana, you can all me Alley — artist, teacher, mum, and the heart behind Alleyway Art Studio.

Before Alleyway, I spent some years in schools — teaching art, watching students light up when the right teacher met them at the right moment. I experienced firsthand how a passionate, skilled teacher doesn't just teach technique — they open a whole world. They make the art world feel like somewhere you belong.

But somewhere in all that giving, I'd missed out on the joy of making for myself.

Alleyway began in the season when I came back to that — not as a teacher, not as a student, but just as a person who needed to create and to share the creating with my minis. What started as a small, family-led art space grew from a desire to create somewhere safe, welcoming, and real… especially for women and mums like me who needed a place to breathe, make, connect and just be.

Back then, it was all about messy play, connection, and community. We painted with our kids, we embraced the chaos, and we let go of the idea that art had to be perfect to be meaningful.

Like many things in life, that chapter went quiet for a while. But the heart of it never left.

Over the years, I continued creating as an artist, teaching, and working within other studios — building experience, learning what works for me, and more importantly, understanding what truly matters when it comes to creativity and people. I had the privilege of learning from and alongside experienced, passionate teachers — people who had spent years in their craft and in their classrooms — and that shaped everything about how I approach this work. There is something irreplaceable about being guided by someone who genuinely loves what they do.

And what I kept coming back to was this:

Everyone deserves access to creativity.

Not just the "naturally talented."

Not just the confident.

Not just the ones who think they're "good at art."

Everyone.

Because art isn't just about what you make — it's about what happens while you're making it.

It's about confidence. It's about expression. It's about slowing down. It's about connection — to yourself and to others.

Art inspires art. When we see real artists at work — when we're exposed to genuine creative practice, to the stories behind the work, to the messy and the beautiful parts of the art world — something shifts. Creativity and artworks in galleries becomes less intimidating and more possible. That's why Alleyway isn't just about technique; it's about opening doors. Bringing people into contact with real artists, real stories, and real creative communities — because exposure is its own kind of education, and it belongs to everyone.

That's where Alleyway is now.

Today, Alleyway Art Studio is a mobile, growing creative space — bringing art into the community through classes, workshops, schools, and shared experiences. It's built on inclusivity, encouragement, and the belief that there is no one "right way" to create.

I'm deeply passionate about process art — focusing on the experience rather than the outcome. Giving people the freedom to explore, to play, to experiment, and to feel proud of what they create without pressure or comparison.

I also believe in the power of people teaching people — experienced artists, creatives, and passionate individuals sharing what they love in a way that inspires others. Not through rigid rules, but through connection, curiosity, and joy. The teachers who show up here bring real depth — years of practice, genuine enthusiasm, and the kind of knowledge that only comes from living inside a creative life.

Alleyway is growing into something bigger than just classes.

It's becoming a community. A space for kids to build confidence. A place for adults to reconnect with themselves. A platform for creativity to be shared, supported, and celebrated — and a bridge into the wider art world for people who never felt like it was made for them or always had a spark of curiosity.

And one day — a physical studio to call home.

But for now, we meet in the in-between spaces. In community halls, in schools, in shared places. In the "alleyways" of life — where something unexpected, colourful, and meaningful can happen.

If you've ever felt like creativity wasn't for you, or that you weren't "artistic enough", if you feel called to create, and want the company and connection that comes with it… this space is especially for you.

You're always welcome here.
