Art Explorers

Art Explorers | Term 2 | Landscape & Nature
from $210.00

Art Explorers is a weekly after-school art class for curious kids aged 7 and up. Each term we follow a theme together — this term is Landscape and Nature — exploring the world around us through drawing, painting, 3D sculpture elements and mixed media.

Classes are hands-on, inclusive, engaging and focused on the making, the experimenting, the individual process. Each session introduces a new technique, artist or idea, building skills and confidence week by week.

Two sessions are run back to back straight after school, and can be booked as a double. Students staying for both sessions bring a snack and enjoy a short reset break between classes — perfect for kids who want to dive a little deeper into the day's making.

Classes are held at Boolaroo Public School Hall, 3pm session best suit students attending this school to join straight from class.

Some things to expect

Process-led art making, not step-by-step copying

Children are encouraged to explore materials, ideas and techniques in their own way - we love unique individual works of creativity here, no one work will be the same. Each artwork is uniquly theirs, inspired by the focus of the day.

Creativity grows through experimentation

There’s no “wrong” in art making here. Children are supported to take creative risks, try ideas, solve problems and trust their creative instincts. Building students confidence in their own art making decisions and process.

Inspired by real artists and the natural world

This 6-week taster explores nature, landscape, sculpture, collage and imaginative world-building through playful projects inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, John Wolseley and Yayoi Kusama.

Celebration Party Week

Our final week of term will always be a party session - this term think playful imaginative land/world building. Creating their dream landscapes together from their imagination with a few snacks and games.

❊ FAQs

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • Art Explorers is designed for ages 7-12. Younger children may attend with a supervising adult.

  • Not at all. This program is designed for all children - especially those who love to explore, imagine and create.

  • Aprons and smocks will be provided to protect cloths, we understand that afternoons are busy and many kids may still be in school uniform. Art-making can be a messy business, we do our best to protect clothing but encourage old art-making appropriate clothing.

  • Each session is designed to stand alone within the term theme so missing one week won't leave your child lost. Please get in touch if you know in advance — we'll do our best to accommodate where we can.

  • We are an inclusive studio and welcome children of all abilities and learning styles. Our teachers have experience with adapting techniques, materials and instruction to include individuals with additional needs. Please get in touch before booking so we can have a conversation about how we can best support your child in class.

  • Yes — casual spots are available at $38 per session, subject to availability. Block enrolments are always prioritised so we recommend booking early. These can be paid for in person on the day. A casual session is a great way to try Art Explorers before signing up for a full term.

  • No — and this is intentional. At Alleyway we teach through process art, which means demonstrations and artist examples are used as a jumping-off point, not a template to copy. Every child's work is their own, made through their own choices and creative decisions.
