Block out some time for yourself and come and create. Creative Block is a series designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your creativity, and build some new skills, try new techniques, and create a collection of works — one session at a time.
Under this term’s overarching theme, Pieces of Us, we are focusing entirely on watercolour techniques to explore the things we love — from favourite places to delicious foods and the things that bring us joy. Over six weeks, you'll dive into building your watercolour skills layer by layer. You don’t need experience, you don’t need skills, you just need to want to create!
We’ll look at layer building for beautiful landscapes, mastering a quick-sketch and document style perfect for a travel journal, and playing with styles that are fun and full of energy. You'll learn all about the nature of watercolours, the frustrations to avoid, and tips and tricks to lean into the creating style that suits you. There are soo many possibilities!
You'll leave with a small collection of works that are entirely your own — made through your eyes, your hand, your process. No prior experience needed. No pressure to be perfect. Just two hours of focused, guided making in good company.
Week 1 (13th Aug): Abstract Colour Play — Get familiar with watercolour
Week 2 (20th Aug): Animals — Capturing playful character in watercolour
Week 3 (27th Aug): Places You Love — Layering landscapes and seascapes
Week 4 (3rd Sept): In the Moment — Pen and watercolour travel journaling style
Week 5 (10th Sept): Foods, Fruits, & Still Life
Week 6 (17th Sept): The Final Work — Bring your favourite discoveries together for a final piece
When: Thursdays, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Dates: 13th August – 17th September (6-week block)
Location: Braidy’s Board Game and Hobby Club Warners Bay (Unit 1, 44-46 Medcalf Street, Warners Bay, NSW)
Price: $330 for the full program OR $60 per session for casual drop-ins
All the things: Professional watercolour materials, papers, and drawing mediums.
2-hour teacher-led sessions.
Entry to Braidy's Hobby Club (café, snacks, and licensed bar available on-site).
New techniques and ideas each week to keep your creativity and skill development at an all-time high.
